Palliative Care
Internationally, there are currently movements to recognize palliative care as a human right. As a result of such movements, initiatives have been started to improve the global availability of morphine, basic medical infrastructure, the integration of palliative care into the training and education of health care professionals.
The latter is of utmost importance, since palliative care is an approach and delivered as primary palliative care by all physicians, nurses and other health care specialists in different fields (e.g.: as family doctors or nursing services).
In addition to primary palliative care the development and provision of specialized palliative care and hospice services is being promoted. Specialized palliative care and hospice services may include the establishment of palliative care units, palliative care consultation services and outpatient care, inpatient hospices, as well as home care hospice and palliative care teams.
With this pilot project we aim to identify shortcomings of palliative care delivery in the urban partner regions and initiate a joint transdisciplinary and international communication process to develop suggestions for the further advancement of palliative care.
