Biological Anthropology
There is a large variety along the mother-child continuum where society could intervene to improve health and health outcomes. However, it is often difficult to know when and where to start. In order to develop proposals on how to invest limited financial resources with the highest impact to improve mother and child health at a community level it is crucial to (1) know major risk factors, (2) estimate the extent to which specific risk factors impact on health, (3) know about the coping strategies people develop over time, (4) available health system factors and basically (5) to address the population under risk.
The purpose of this pilot project is to collect comprehensive information about determinants of health (including indicators from the other partners of this research project) and about mother and child health among the urban poor and rich in order to design promising interventions for the population strata in need.
